IRFOL has developed self-study materials for the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) which aim to strengthen the research capacity of those Commonwealth institutions with limited resources working in open and distance learning (ODL) . The core of the programme is the development of self-study materials for staff with limited research experience or support in ODL contexts. The materials adopt a practitioner enquiry methodology which will ask staff to reflect on practices in their institution and consider strategies for change. They aim to develop practical research skills through engagement in research tasks using case-study data from the student's own workplace and also other international contexts. Student support strategies and incentives are also part of the programme. Programme team: Dr Charlotte Creed (Programme co-ordinator), Terry Allsop (Director), Helen Lentell (COL Training Programme Manager), Professor Bernadette Robinson (Academic Editor), Richard Freeman (Instructional Designer), Dr Alicia Fentiman (Basic Education Advisor), Reehana Raza (Higher Education Advisor) and an international steering group.
