AREAS OF EXPERTISE

IRFOL was set up to address a perceived lack of independent, policy-focussed research in Open and Distance Learning. Although we were concerned with the use of ODL in education at all levels and in both industrialised and low-income countries, the strongest emphasis of our work to date was on the needs of low-income countries where ODL is promoted as having the potential to solve many educational problems. Our specific research interests included basic, teacher and higher education and cost effectiveness.

We had a strong commitment to researcher training and to the dissemination of research through our website and conferences.
